What is athletic training?
Athletic training includes the prevention, diagnosis, and intervention of emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities. The goal of athletic training services is to ensure that each athlete can safely perform at his or her maximum potential. Athletic training draws on the disciplines of exercise, medicine, physical therapy, physical education and sports. The field of athletic training provides a major link between the sports environment and the medical community for theimplementation of injury prevention, emergency care, and rehabilitative procedures.
Who are athletic trainers?
Athletic training is practiced by Certified Athletic Trainers (ATC’s). Athletic trainers are regulated and licensed health care workers who specialize in athletic health care. Athletic trainers know and practice health care at the highest professional, ethical and quality standards in orderto protect the public.
