Labor Day marks the end of the summer season and the beginning of a new school year, fall sports and the holiday season. With busier schedules upon us, why not take the extra day off to spend some time focusing on your health?
Here are some ways to make the most of Labor Day to benefit your health:
Try a new workout. During the week, getting into a routine is necessary in order to accommodate work and school schedules. Instead of keeping your fitness time the same on your day off, try a different time and new activity instead. Hit the gym early for a class that isn’t offered during your regular work out time. Switching up your routine, even for a day, can benefit your body and helps you stay engaged in your workout.
Prep weeknight meals. One of the biggest hurdles to eating healthy is the time it takes to prepare meals and snacks. By having an extra day to run to the market and prepare meals that can be eaten throughout the week or frozen for the future.
Catch up with a friend. Time spent socializing is also beneficial to your health. Take a stroll around the neighborhood while using that time to chat and de-stress. Doing a physical activity with a friend is a good distraction from the physical effort and makes the activity more enjoyable.
Whatever you do throughout the long weekend, be sure to keep your health in mind. Take the opportunity to try something new, plan ahead or relax and give yourself a mental break.
