About 2 years ago, Nina had surgery to repair a torn meniscus (part of the cartilage of the knee). When her pain didn’t improve, her doctor recommended a knee replacement. After that surgery, Nina became a patient at TheraSport Physical Therapy in Eden, North Carolina.
Nina describes her physical therapy experience here:
I have pain all the the time from arthritis and fibromyalgia, so I thought therapy would be a piece of cake… Now, I can tell you, it’s not! It’s hard work, and the stretching can hurt. But, I know that’s what I’ve got to do to get well again. That’s motivation enough for me.
My therapy goals are to walk normally, to be able to straighten my leg without pain, and to be able to pedal forward and backward on a bicycle. My doctor said to plan on a year to fully recover, and based on my progress so far, I know I’ll meet my goals.
For me, this is a life change. I know I’ll have to continue to do my exercises even after I finish therapy. I’ll have to, so that I can keep doing everything from cleaning my floor to looking after my grandchildren. There’s no excuse not to work hard.
Thank you for sharing your physical therapy story with us, Nina!
