What is the Functional Movement Screen?
The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is the product of an exercise philosophy known as Functional Movement Systems. The FMS simplifies the concept of movement and its impact on the body.
Benefits of the FMS include:
- Consistent, reliable testing method
- Easily identifies movement limitations, asymmetries and dysfunction
- Improves efficiency, durability, safety and performance
- Provides an enhanced foundation for exercise and performance programming
Who can administer the Functional Movement Screen?
The FMS is only available from FMS Certified Providers, such as Tiffany Deloatch, DPT.
Tiffany is a physical therapist at Danville Orthopedic & Athletic Rehab and Martinsville Physical Therapy & Industrial Rehab. She earned her certification as a FMS provider in 2013. She uses the FMS as an assessment to help her physical therapy patients improve function as well as a tool to help local athletes maximize their potential.
Tiffany is passionate about the FMS because of her own commitment to performance excellence. She was a collegiate basketball and lacrosse player, and she now stays active by playing co-ed softball and running. She has even competed in a Tough Mudder!
