Miles, Meals + Math is a challenge to encourage physical activity, healthy eating and math skills among children ages 4 through 13. For seven consecutive days, each participant must run a half-mile, eat one fruit and one vegetable, and keep a record of these activities. At the end of the challenge, each participant must calculate the total time and average time it took to run the half-mile per day. The boy and girl in each age category who completed the challenge with the lowest average time will be recognized with a prize.
The program also promotes civic mindedness, by offering each participant a choice of where his/her registration fee goes: The Boys & Girls Club of the Danville Area or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. The program encourages each child to earn his/her $3.00 registration fee; for example, by performing chores around the house.
The Miles, Meals + Math challenge is offered through a partnership between The Brick Running & Tri Store and Danville Orthopedic & Athletic Rehab. Adam Jones, owner of The Brick, developed the idea for the program.
The challenge will take place from June 23, 2013 through June 29, 2013. Registration is required, and is open now through June 21, 2013 at The Brick Running & Tri-Store (410A Main Street, Danville, VA 24541).
