South Boston welcomes new Physical Therapist Assistant, Tanya Howell
Join us in welcoming Tanya Howell, PTA to the team at DOAR South Boston! Tanya is a licensed PTA with a Bachelor of Business degree as well as an Associate of Applied Science degree in Physical Therapy. She brings 20 years experience in outpatient, acute, and skilled nursing facility settings, with expertise in orthopedics and neuro patients. Tanya is relocating to the area from southwest Virginia and is excited to start a new chapter here.
DOAR welcomes back Jeff Durand and Leslie Adkins after completion of SPTA clinical rotations
Join us in welcoming back Leslie Adkins, former Athletic Trainer with DOAR South Boston, and Jeff Durand, former Athletic Trainer with DOAR North. Leslie and Jeff recently completed clinical rotations while pursuing their PTA degree from the Kent State ATC to PTA program. Leslie and Jeff are currently working with patients at their respective clinics as Physical Therapist Assistant Trainees prior to obtaining their PTA licensure.
Leslie has a Master’s in Athletic Training and is a licensed Athletic Trainer. Leslie has been with DOAR since 2011 and is excited to use her new knowledge and experience as a Physical Therapist Assistant Trainee with the South Boston patients.
Jeff is a Certified Athletic Trainer and Exercise Physiologist. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), a Certified Health/Fitness Instructor by the American College of Sports Medicine, a Certified Aquatics Instructor, and a Certified Nutrition Specialist. Jeff holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Appalachian State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Athletic Training from Averett University. Jeff has been with DOAR since 1995.

Job Description
- Position Title: Billing Specialist
- Status: Full-Time
- Hours of Work: Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5pm
- Supervisor: Billing Office Manager

Duties and Responsibilities
- Input data including new patient demographics and charges
- Produce and submit claims to insurance companies
- Work directly with the insurance company, therapy provider, and patient to get a claim processed and paid
- Review and appealing unpaid and denied claims
- Verify patients’ insurance coverage
- Obtain pre-authorization if required
- Answer phone calls from patients regarding billing questions
- Coordinate collections on unpaid accounts
- Keep information confidential in accordance with HIPAA
- Maintain knowledge of billing practices and requirements
- Other duties as required
Qualifications
- Experience in medical office billing required, including knowledge of CPT codes, ICD-10 coding, claim submission and followup
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s Degree preferred
- Excellent computer skills required, including data entry skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and email
- Excellent customer service skills required

Job Description
- Title: Front Office Coordinator / Therapy Technician
- Location: TheraSport Physical Therapy Summerfield (4446-A Highway 220 North, Summerfield, NC)
- Status: Full-time (32-40 hours/week)
- Start Date: Immediate
Front Office Coordinator Duties
- Provide exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, and referral sources
- Greet all patients and other visitors as they arrive
- Coordinate patient referrals and registration
- Schedule initial evals, follow up visits and progress evals
- Operate standard office equipment, such as computer, copier, scanner, phone and fax machine
- Establish and maintain patient records in electronic format
- Verify insurance information and obtain pre-authorization if required
- Communicate with relevant staff at the centralized billing office
- Participate in internal chart audits, billing audits, and other compliance programs
Therapy Technician Duties
- Maximize the licensed therapist’s time with each patient
- Escort patients to treatment area
- Setup exercise equipment and supervise exercises
- Document exercises supervised in the electronic flowsheet
- Housekeeping, including infection control, facility cleanliness and laundry
General Duties
- Keep information confidential in accordance with HIPAA
- Represent the clinic in the community through participation in marketing opportunities

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent, Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- CPR certification preferred (required within 30 days of hire)
- Valid drivers license
