Melissa Smith, PTA, Physical Therapist Assistant at DOAR in Danville, VirginiaMelissa Smith is a licensed physical therapist assistant (LPTA). As an LPTA, she is licensed to provide physical therapy services under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist.

Melissa joined the team at DOAR in 2011 upon her graduation from the physical therapist assistant program at  Jefferson College of Health Sciences in Roanoke, Virginia.  During her time at Jefferson College, Melissa completed clinical rotations at DOAR Chatham and Danville Orthopedic Clinic.  Her particular clinical interest is working with orthopedic patients.

Prior to becoming a physical therapy assistant, Melissa worked as a certified nurse aide (CNA) at Gretna Health & Rehab and Summit Health & Rehab.  It was while she was employed as a CNA that Melissa decided to pursue the field of physical therapy.  She had begun working closely with the rehab department, and she found that she wanted to be more involved, as her desire to help people get stronger and return to a more independent lifestyle was growing.

Melissa is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the Virginia Physical Therapy Association (VPTA).

Outside of work, Melissa enjoys spending time with her husband and children and going to the beach. She is also a member of the Elim Assembly for God.
