NuStep offers low-impact option for cardio exercise

NuStep Recumbent Cross-trainer now available at DOAR North and DOAR CentralThe NuStep recumbent cross trainer  is a new option for cardiovascular equipment. The NuStep “simulates a natural walking motion while eliminating undesirable joint stress and promoting functional fitness.”

The NuStep is valuable in the physical therapy setting for several reasons: First, it is a low-impact, high-comfort alternative to traditional cardio equipment such as treadmills and stairmasters.  Second, the machine provides simultaneous upper- and lower-body motion.  This allows the user to work all major muscle groups to burn calories, build strength and improve overall cardiovascular fitness. Third, because the NuStep simulates natural motion, it is very useful for patients whose functional physical therapy goals include improving walking and climbing stairs.
